A straight CD reissue of a vintage Chess LP, its contents dating back to the early '50s and most tracks originally issued on the Premium logo. Includes an early and very nice reading of "Mother Earth;" also sharp as a tack is "Rockin' the Pad." In an unusual move, Slim is joined by a smooth vocal group, the Vagabonds, for "Really Got the Blues.".

Memphis SlimWarnerWarner (label)Blues (CD, LP)Soul (CD, LP) Slim may have "Memphis" in his name, but the set's a reunion with southside Chicago players Buddy Guy & Junior Wells – recorded in France in , when the players were backing up the Rolling Stones on tour!

This was the third of four albums Memphis Slim cut for Bluesville, in He accompanies himself on piano, and many of the songs he sings are double entendre dirty ditties - and great. CHURNIN' MAN is all about a man churning cream into butter, and it's the kind of song Bo Carter used to sing in the `30s/5(6).

These tracks were recorded in 19and to me they are not among Slim's best work with a full band, they are still worth listening to because, after all, it's Memphis Slim, and the man hardly made a bad album in a career that lasted over 40 years.4/5(3).

For the most part, this is a session wherein the blues raconteur and pianist Memphis Slim runs through a good chunk of his repertoire, the songs that came to mind that afternoon. As such, it's relaxed entertainment, rather than a fixed recording for a larger audience. Which is not to say an audience can't enjoy this music.
