In this article on Beethoven's Piano Concerto # 5 in E-flat (the "Emperor") we consider the concerto's name, Beethoven's other piano concertos, the "Emperor's" unique features, its dedication and premieres, some matters of style, early recordings with connections to the composer, and some further recordings demonstrating both an array of styles.

Piano Concerto No 5 "Emperor" Peter Toperczer. January 1, Through my Italian hifi system I am having a total recall of all the positives of this CD (clean classical objective style of performance with little if any added to the music, coupled with the best possible recorded sound of the time for this music) and a moment or two of extra /5(12).

To keep the Emperor Concerto company and extend the total running time a little, the third and final CD includes the 32 Variations On An Original Theme In C Minor, Wo0 Highly recommended as an addition to other sets you may have, or a perfectly valid choice if you only want one set of /5(54).

As is true of many of the composer's works with nicknames -- e.g. the "Moonlight" Sonata, the "Spring" Sonata -- the "Emperor" moniker attached to Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E flat major, Op. 73 () is not the composer's own. Still, there is hardly an adjective that could more aptly evoke the work's impressive scale and majesty.

In my estimation - based upon quality, no potential consumer should hesitate whatsoever in buying this CD (in fact - I now own Vladar's 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Beethoven Concertos and have the 1st Concerto in my cart to buy soon)/5(4).
