Musicians whose complete collection of albums (as leader) I own or pretty damn close. A.K.A. my list of favorite artists. Caveats: I only included those artists with at least 4 albums. If I list more than a couple missing albums for an artist, it's because they have a large discography. In addition to the artists listed below, [Artist], [Artist], [Artist], [Artist], [Artist

But then again, experimentation has always been at the core of the Steve Coleman experience, and some of his amazing ideas have challenged and transformed modern jazz. The Sonic Language of Myth represents only the latest in an ongoing series of documents. To Coleman's credit, his recordings keep getting better and better.

Listening deeply to Steve Coleman's recordings is like trying to decipher a wall of Egyptian hieroglyphs by flickering candle light without knowledge of the language. This is not jazz that is light entertainment - but it is not strictly cerebral either, in spite of the remarkably deep intellect of the music's creator.

Steve Coleman is definitely a force in the world of modern jazz, and that fact is confirmed with this CD. The relationships between the use of rhythm and melodic content creates some beautiful and haunting textures. This is a must have for any Steve Coleman fan.
