Hugh Calder was also a Highlander, from the Assynt area of Sutherland. He led the Band to its first World Championship title at Cowal Games in , winning the Argyle Shield. This was the first time a Police Pipe Band had triumphed and the win was followed by Pipe Major John McDonald's Glasgow Police Pipe Band the following year.
